Switch Shuntings

Pull chain switches often have identical outer shells but very different internal shunting. For a method of testing the internal shunting click here. Click here for a Testing Method to determine the internal shunting.
Below are four switches used in Gulf Coast Fans over the decades. The first one SW200nn is commonly found as a replacement switch at mass merchants and home centers. These switches are used in most basic and older ceiling fans using taps in the motor's winding to control the speeds. Most Gulf Coast Fans use a Dual Capacitor and the second switch, SW300nn, to control the speeds. Prior to the removeable switch cup, a Transformer and the Double Stack #913 was used to control the speeds. Even earlier models used a Choke and a Commander switch. The Commander switch was sometimes used on the taps in the motor winding, instead of SW200nn.
